CITYterm at the Master’s School invited Great Ecology’s Rachel Gruzen to join its panel of experts at the annual Watefront Symposium held at the Horticultural Society on May 17, 2011. CITYterm, an intensive urban studies program for outstanding high school students, tasked its students with a waterfront redevelopment planning charrette for four underutilized waterfront sites in Manhattan, the Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens. Gruzen and other panelists discussed the students’ proposals and evaluated their success in addressing neighborhood needs, economic feasibility, ecological function, land use history and urban planning vision.

Great Ecology’s Bryan Quinn also led CITYterm’s students on a tour of the Brooklyn Bridge Park in early May. Quinn presented the ecological restoration features of the Park including stormwater wetlands and intertidal wetland, and spoke on Great Ecology’s design process as an ecological consultant to waterfront redevelopment and restoration projects.
