Restoring the North Pond at the Rensselaer Wildlife Habitat Center

Project Details

Great Ecology conducted an ecological evaluation of the north pond at the Rensselaer Wildlife Habitat Center in Rensselaer, NY. Great Ecology staff collected water quality samples of the pond, groundwater treatment plant, and city water supply. Water quality data was compared to previous samples to determine nutrient level changes and informed recommendations to improve the pond’s water quality. Great Ecology’s recommendations included the development of a management plan with a phased improvement program and regular a monitoring cycle.

This project is a continuation of the long-term project involvement of Great Ecology’s Director of Design, who has worked on the Rensselaer Wildlife Habitat Center from conceptual design to long-term monitoring.  In addition, Great Ecology proposed an urban agriculture initiative for the site.
