Sycuan Trail Biological Surveys

A Large Scale Nest Survey for all Species Protected Under the Federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act

Project Details

Great Ecology provided biological surveys for the Sycuan Willow Lake Trail’s brush management strategy. Staff conducted a nest survey for all species protected under the Federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act which included flagging and photographing nest sites as well as submitting GPS data for identified nests. Staff followed standard bird nest survey practices per U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the California Department of Fish & Wildlife guidance. Great Ecology staff identified active nest sites along approximately 3.2 miles of trails and calls from the federally listed Least Bell’s Vireo. All survey findings were submitted to the client as part of the compliance under the Federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act, the California Fish and Game Codes 3503 and 3513. In addition, Great Ecology provided the client recommendations to avoid disturbance of the bird’s territory.
