October 13, 2011To our friends, colleagues, partners and clients,
I am extremely pleased to announce that Great Ecology & Environments has just celebrated our ten year anniversary. Originally formed as Great Eastern Ecology, we began the company with a dinner party on September 10, 2001 (the day we were incorporated in New York State) and woke up the next day to find our world had changed. We could not even get to our offices in downtown Manhattan for a month following the attacks on the WTC. From that challenging beginning our company has grown and eventually thrived, building a niche practice at the intersection of ecology and habitat restoration design.
In 2008 we changed our name to Great Ecology & Environments and in 2010 we opened an office in California. Today, our staff has grown to over twenty of the best environmental professionals in the business, now spread across four offices. We’ve completed dozens of projects around the country, improving the environmental condition of large and small sites for a variety of clients with built works in New York City, Toronto, New Jersey, Connecticut and several other locations. Our projects have been featured in Landscape Architecture, The Architects Newsletter, The Sundance Channel and other notable publications and media outlets. We have won awards such as the 2009 Design of Excellence from New York City for the Croton Water Treatment Plant. And today, we are working on planning for restoration in the Gulf Coast in the wake of the Deepwater Horizon Gulf Oil Spill.
I am excited to announce our company’s new name, logo, and website in celebration of our tenth year anniversary. Going forward, Great Ecology & Environments will be known simply as “Great Ecology.” Our new website may be found at: www.greatecology.com
It has been a pleasure to work with you over the course of our first ten years in business. We’re ready to take on new projects, and we look forward to partnering with you again, or perhaps for the first time, on the frontiers of science and design.
Respectfully,
Mark S. Laska, Ph.D.
CEO and President
