Platte Farm Open Space Detention Facility

Denver, CO

Platte Farm Open Space is a 5.5 acre highly functioning, low maintenance park space with a detention basin designed to offer water quality improvements. Located at the site of historic smelting operations in the Globeville neighborhood of Denver, this brownfield to open space restoration brought needed ecological uplift and stormwater quality improvement to the surrounding community. Great Ecology worked with the project team, led by Valerian, for the overall design of the park space and detention basin. Great Ecology developed seed mixes for a short grass prairie ecosystem, a planting plan, irrigation plan, and management plan for the park. The design incorporated native plant species that would have historically been present on the site, and which were chosen to provide soil stabilization, water quality improvements, and improved aesthetics in the detention basin.
