Poudre Ponds Park Ecological Design & Mitigation Banking Feasibility Analysis

Greeley, CO

Great Ecology provided ecological assessments, wetland delineations, and ecological design support to the AECOM-led team for the redevelopment of the 25th Avenue Gravel Pits in Greeley, CO. The 200-acre site is located along the Cache la Poudre River and was mined for sand and gravel for more than two decades. The project involved reclaiming the site to meet the mining permit requirements and provide non-potable water storage for the City along with a new open space park for residents. The site redesign resulted in a high functioning, low maintenance landscape that includes improved fisheries and bird habitat, trails and overlooks, and wetland creation for mitigation purposes. In addition, Great Ecology led the coordination with federal agencies on the feasibility of a mitigation bank onsite.
