Great Ecology's coastal erosion Pressure Equalizing Module (PEM) pilot project, in collaboration with Ecoshore International, has shown positive early results for successful beach erosion reversal. ~3.5 years after installation, the project has halted and reversed erosion, adding 20+ feet of sand dune to a private beach in East Hampton, NY.
Homeowners along the beach had previously faced flooding and storm surge damage with probable loss of structures a real threat due to continued erosion prior to PEM installation. This pilot project has, so far, demonstrated that PEM can serve as a viable solution to halting and possibly reversing beach erosion across the United States.
Great Ecology continues to monitor the project as part of the 5-year post implementation plan.
