New York City Container Terminal Mitigation Strategy

Project Summary:

The New York Container Terminal (NYCT) engaged Great Ecology to develop mitigation strategies to offset wetland impacts incurred during the NYCT’s potential marine terminal expansion in the Arthur Kill tidal straight of New York Harbor off of Staten Island. Great Ecology conducted extensive site investigations and GIS mapping to identify and evaluate potential mitigation locations in New York City, and developed ecological designs and performed cost-benefit analyses for feasible projects. Great Ecology also liaised with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, New York City Economic Development Corporation, and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and conducted stakeholder outreach with regional planning and local citizens’ groups.
