In collaboration with Port Urbanism, the Park at Expo Idaho reimagines a former racehorse track as an 88-acre park adjacent to the Boise River with a mixture of recreation areas and ecological zones. The design dually aspired to create intensive play zones and maximize ecological uplift. The Heart of the Park, 25 acres of active recreation and fitness, includes event and educational venues, and the 60-acre Lowlands offers more than 5 miles of trails traversing the diverse native planting zones.
Great Ecology collaborated closely with the consultant team on design, grading and plant palettes for the Lowlands, where seven distinct habitat zones represent some of Treasure Valley’s prominent ecosystems. Great Ecology also reviewed onsite soils to understand existing soil health and develop recommendations for soil amendment to ensure successful vegetation establishment for the meadow, wetland, and riparian habitat restoration. Methods will include use of bio-stimulants and composting and mulching.
